Week #14 Ironman Training

Week #14 Ironman Training
April 9, 2014 Jess

Jumping back into training after 8 days off definitely kicked my ass but I don’t feel that it was to my detriment although my left soleus muscle may say different.  The sheer bliss of practicing yoga for 8 days straight was so worth it and to be totally honest, I didn’t miss triathlon training at all, not one bit.  I’m not sure what that means but it certainly didn’t have any delay on me getting right back into the swing of things. It’s business as usual at Chez Gumkowski.

Time continues to get tight and my yoga practice comes in especially handy on the overflowing days.  I’m working with a new mantra that MB gave me and I feel that it’s really allowing me to take my meditation practice into my everyday life more so than ever.  The mantra is about not letting anything, yes anything, upset me or frighten me, it’s about trusting with patience that all of my needs will always be met and complete surrender to the present moment.  I can see how this is going to be exceptionally good prep for race day and my goal of a graceful day.

More relevant to now, as I type this I am in bed feeling like I was hit by a truck.  Something hit me hard this morning and instead of worrying about losing another day of training, I am feeding my body with healthy food, staying in bed and sleeping as much as I can.  Hopefully it will go out as quickly as it came in.  All I can control is how I handle it and the choices I make in my healing process.  I have a choice to be upset or not be upset.  I have a choice to fight or surrender to my body’s wisdom.  We’ll see what my body needs and I will continue to let it guide me.  Days like this are always a sharp reminder to train consistently as much as I can because there will be some days that catch me off guard and training is not an option.  Today is one of those days.

Namaste.
