Being centered, letting go, and keeping things fun were tenets of Sam Long’s childhood. Taught to him by his mother, who is a psychologist, Sam learned to hone his mindset at a young age. These mental skills have no doubt served him well in his triathlon career first as an age-grouper and now going into his fourth year as a professional.
Although Sam is just 24-years old, he is no rookie to the sport of triathlon. Sam raced his first Ironman at the age of 18, where he won his age group and punched his ticket to the Ironman World Championship. He earned his first Ironman win in Chattanooga last fall, which marked his 15th Ironman start. Despite three other wins over the 2019 season, it was this Ironman win that took Sam’s career to the next level, and we can’t wait to see what manifests from here.
Sam’s genuine nature shines in our conversation, and his proclivity to have fun feels infectious. We hope that you take away a renewed commitment to fun and letting go, resting like a Kenyan runner and staying the course toward your dreams.
