Mendocino 50k - Taking the Leap into Ultra Running

Today BJ and I are joined by two official ultrarunners, Liz and Jill. This past weekend the three of us threw it down on the Mendocino 50k course while BJ and Clark ran support. For months we've been stressing, resting and adapting for our big day and it all paid off with big returns. We dive into our race experiences and very individualized training which led up to race day. This podcast serves as the perfect example that there is no "one way" to train to reach a goal. BJ and I moved to Southern California in 2016 because we were absolutely done with New England winters and eager to train outdoors all year round. Living in San Diego has delivered exactly that as well as amazing trails for me to train on so course simulation was not a stretch. Liz lives near Boston but in the country, so she did have access to trails, that is once that snow let up. Oh, it hasn't let up yet? Well, somehow she managed to get a few weeks in before the big day on top of a training weekend on the west coast with yours truly back in March. And then there was Jill who ran on the trails for the first time this past weekend. Training in Brooklyn did not lend to ideal conditions but she made the best out of what she had and ended up killing it in Mendo. In her words, "You do what you do with what you've got". Apparently, she managed to stow a lot away over her 15-week training block. We recorded this show the morning after the race, sleep deprived and inflamed so let us know if you are left with curiosities after a listen.
