Joe Gambles, Professional Triathlete & Coach on Undoing Damage, Eating Vegan & Longevity in Sport

No matter how many times we race a specific distance or show up at a specific race, we will never be able to remove the unknown of race day. The only thing we can really do is to prepare our bodies and minds to receive our greatest success and allow the events of the day to unfold as they will without resistance. Joe Gambles showed up fit and ready to this year's Ironman 70.3 Oceanside and within minutes of his 56-mile bike leg he flatted and quickly began to lose time on his competitors. After a long wait for bike tech and calming advice from his friend Lawrence of Inner Runner, Joe was back in his breath and on his bike. This was not Joe's first rodeo and although he can count on one hand how many flats he has had in his career, he knew that staying flexible was key to moving forward. Joe competed in his first triathlon at the age of 12 and at 37 he is a veteran of the sport and well-respected professional triathlete and coach. Today we're grateful to bring Joe to the YT community. In this conversation, we talk about the importance of keeping a long-term perspective for success in sport, undoing damage in the body and his personal story of transitioning to a fully vegan diet. Previously a life-long vegetarian, Joe shares the changes and benefits he's experienced as a result of getting rid of eggs and dairy from his nutritional regime. Joe also shares his tactics as coach to Heather Jackson, one of triathlon's greatest competitors and his vision for the future. We are in deep thanks to you all for supporting the show and coming along with us on our mission to create a better world. Joe is for certain living his purpose through the sport of triathlon and showing us all the longevity is possible in doing what we love.We are a 100% listener supported podcast, no sponsors means no commercials.
