Yoga For Athletes

Jess and BJ are extremely effective teachers for many reasons, but most notably because they are living examples of what they preach. Jess and BJ are both Ironman triathletes, plant-based nutrition enthusiasts, and they taught several increasingly well-attended and received “Yoga for Athlete’s” workshops at Rhode Island Power Yoga that focused on yoga’s central mindfulness practices, intelligent athletic training, and nutrition.” – Renee, owner Rhode Island Power Yoga

Yoga For Athletes
Athletes like to think they don’t need yoga. If they’re not sweating or increasing their heart rate, they don’t consider it a workout and would rather not waste their time. But yoga has many benefits for athletes, including increasing your flexibility, which in turn, keeps your muscles and joints safe.

Additionally, your oxygen intake will become more efficient as yoga is all about breath and movement, while a regular yoga practice also improves your mental toughness and focus. With yoga’s emphasis on the mind-body connection, athletes can enhance their active recovery and get back to training sooner by incorporating regular yoga into their training plan.

Jess and BJ have major “Street Cred”
Jess and BJ have over 25 years combined in the field of high performance endurance sports.

Jess has been practicing yoga since 1993 and attributes the physicality of the practice as well as its mindfulness principles to her ability to “finish an Ironman with ease”. Recently discovering a new love for ultra running Jess now finds her multi-sport through combining long distance running, yoga and swimming.

BJ is currently ranked 6th in the nation in the Ironman distance in his age group and he gives credit to yoga for keeping him in the game. Less injury means more training and that is truly his motivation. Being the best means training like the best and BJ’s goals are nothing less.
