Scott Reutter grew up as a swimmer and basketball player in Tucson, AZ, who went on to college at the University of Arizona. He’s completed multiple Ironman and half Ironman distance triathlons and, as many endurance athletes do, discovered the ultra-endurance world as a means to push the boundaries even more. He placed 6th overall at the 2019 Ultra520k in Canada, claiming the 5th fastest swim in the event’s history.
Scott turned vegan in January 2014 and has uncovered a purpose in animal rights and is active with the organization Anonymous for the Voiceless. He’s been living sober since September 1st, 2019, and his driving passion is to make this world a better place for animals and assist those suffering from alcohol addiction to reach a life of sobriety.
In this episode, we discuss:
- training for Ironman while his drinking was out of control
- his last blackout night
- the injury that crushed his dream
- calling himself an alcoholic for the first time
- focusing on our similarities, not our differences
- figuring out how to be vegan as an endurance athlete
- the supply and demand for violence
- his why for long endurance events
